Dr. Eberhard Bock named honorary professor
Kaiserslautern/Weinheim. In November, Professor Dr. Arnd Poetzsch-Heffter, Vice President at the Technical University Kaiserslautern, named Dr. Eberhard Bock an honorary professor before 500 invited guests in Kaiserslautern. Poetzsch-Heffter presented him with the certificate, which was signed by Rhineland-Palatinate Prime Minister Malu Dreyer.
Bock has worked at Freudenberg since 1996, currently as director, Strategic Product Development. He has nurtured the company’s relationship with various universities for many years. From 1998 to 2007, he has delivered the lecture “Fundamentals of Sealing Technology in Hydraulics and Damage to Seals” at the Technical University Dresden. Since 2005, Bock has been a lecturer at the Technical University Kaiserslautern, as well as a lecturer at Leibniz University in Hanover.

Dr. Bernd Sauer, who is vice dean and holds the professorial chair in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Process Technology at TU Kaiserslautern, gave the address in Bock’s honor. “Dr. Bock has always shown himself to be very interested in university education. He has supported student instruction at a number of locations with his outstanding expert knowledge,” Sauer said. “Dr. Bock has fulfilled his activities as a lecturer at the TU Kaiserslautern for 10 years in exemplary fashion. His appointment to honorary professor is no doubt a special benefit to our institution due to his outstanding work at Freudenberg Sealing Technologies.”
The newly minted Prof. Bock teaches the fundamentals of sealing technology during the summer semester each year. The lectures are composed of six four-hour blocks. One of the blocks takes the students on an excursion to Weinheim where they can become familiar with the practical aspects of sealing manufacturing at Freudenberg Sealing Technologies, in addition to the theoretical aspects that they have already learned.
The lectures consist of multimedia presentations. Bock also brings the students “seals to touch and feel.” Product and process videos round out the lectures and presentations, which involve sealing technology and its applications.
“I am deeply honored by the appointment,” Bock told the guests, spontaneously expressing his thanks. “I greatly enjoy the lectures. And, in the process, I am happy to promote Freudenberg Sealing Technologies as a potential employer and to introduce the company to my students.” The efforts have borne fruit: The first graduates of TU Kaiserlautern are already under contract at Freudenberg Sealing Technologies. Another sealing specialist from the professorship for Machine Elements and Transmission Technology (MEGT) in Kaiserslautern began working at Freudenberg on January 1, 2016.
