New Services from Freudenberg Xpress® for the Food and Beverage Industry

The welded seals are based on turned or extruded seal profiles made of original Freudenberg polyurethane materials, such as AU 925, AU 30000, AU V142 and AU 21100. FDA-compliant materials such as AU 21730 and AU V167 are also available. Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) can be used across a wide range of temperatures and demonstrates excellent material properties.

Welded seals from Freudenberg Xpress® offer clear advantages over traditional solutions from competitors. Competitor components rely upon the use of industrial adhesives or outmoded, imprecise welding techniques.  While their production costs are lower, a decline in quality is the result. By contrast, Freudenberg’s advanced production process yields high-quality welded seams that offer outstanding quality and a long seal lifespan.

New Polyurethane for the Process Industry 

In addition to this welding technology, Freudenberg Xpress® is now handling 94 AU 21730, an original high performance, blue polyurethane developed by the company. Thanks to its global certification, including FDA, 3-A^® Sanitary Standards and Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 compliance, AU  21730 can be used in hygienic applications in the process industry. The material is resistant to CIP/SIP media and processes and lends itself to automated cleaning of components and facilities. Whether as an O-ring or customer-specific formed part, this high-quality polyurethane has numerous applications in the food and beverage industry, including valves, piping and fittings, among others.

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is an interesting alternative to elastomers such as EPDM and FKM if elastic qualities are not required. TPU’s high wear resistance reliably prevents brittleness and crack formation while ensuring the seal’s extraordinary longevity. TPU is effective at temperatures of -25 to +110°C (-13 to +230°F), offers a high degree of flexibility and can be used in applications where temperature fluctuation is a factor. The striking blue color of the AU 21730 may also be relevant to the food industry as a differentiating characteristic.
